Remember when the Kings handed out that gold NHL Jerseys at the draft and everyone speculated that it would be worn this season and I told you all that they would be wearing this instead? I told you so! This is the same uniform that the Kings wore when the Canucks played their first game. This is the only vintage purple Kings uni I like. The yellow is too gaudy and the next generation is just ugly. This is simple and classy. Should be a third with a black and white regular set. I totally agree with you on the original purple uniform. However, I do disagree regarding the gold jerseys. First of all, the home team should wear the lights at home anyway and darks on the road. Second, yellow/gold gives the light coloured uniforms a unique alternative to the more traditional white. Being a Vancouver fan, I ALWAYS loved the Canucks' home yellow uniforms. With teams wearing whites on the road, it gets boring seeing white all the time. Team Sweden also wears yellow as its light colour. The only blimp(and it was a big one) was the use of gold pants in the late 70s. Something i noticed about this purpleMLB Jerseys is that never in their history have they worn a jersey quit like this. For if you notice, the yellow stripe is a couple inches above the hemline like the yellow counter part of this era, however the purple one this Jersey is mimicking, the yellow bottom stripe is actually from the hemline up. just a subtle difference, but still very cool. I cant wait for this game though. Should be a good season this year for the Canucks. The new uniform was revealed via the team's website this afternoon. Unlike the retro gold jersey we saw the Los Angeles Kings jerseysgive to their first round draft pick in June, this one is purple. The sweater's design is simple, a replica of what the club wore during the 1970s. It features a single heavy gold stripe around the waist and sleeves along with the classic crown on the chest. Click here for a rendering of the full uniform. In their press release, the team acknowledges the throwback jersey is being used on Saturday to commemorate 40 years of competition with the Vancouver Canucks Jerseys, who entered the NHL in 1970. This year is the Kings' 44th.
The Canucks have had too many radically different colour schemes. That's why the fans can't mount a campaign to dump the orca. What do you dump it for? A lot fans in their 30's are still stuck in the 90's and want to bring that skate logo back. Other fans think the skate logo is pretty dated looking and equally nonsensical as the orca. Some fans like the rink logo. Other fans think it's too simple. Some fans like the Johnny Canuck logo. Other fans think it's too cartoonish and that the Giants somehow own the lumberjack. As for the Orca, I don't think it's a stretch to say it doesn't fit with the current colour scheme and I doubt there are any Canuck fans anywhere that really miss the first MLB Jerseys. But there are many people and some fans in Vancouver that still like the logo. Personally, I think the Vancouver Canucks Team Jerseys should have three main logos. The rink logo, the skating Johnny Canuck logo, and the Johnny Canuck V logo. About 80% of Canuck fans will get behind this right away. Make a home and road set based on the current 3rd jersey and throwback uniform. For the third jersey use the skating Johnny Canuck logo. Have a fashion NHL Jerseys with the Orca in Orca colours. Presto. The Canucks sell a ton uniforms and people have a ton of choice. Andre, I totally disagree with you about the Orca. The colour scheme, the identity, and the logo is all about West Coast (the whale, the greens for trees, the blue for water, the First Nation style, the culture, etc) As a Canucks fan from the US, I can see how the Wholesale Jerseysreally does represent the PNW, and I am getting sick and tired of how people think the Orca is part of the Orca Bay. It doesn't really matter for people who are not in BC and they are not making any fuss about it. When I saw the logo for the first time, I don't see it as OBE, because a corporate company doesn't have anything to do with it. The Johnny Canucks logo isn't a great idea as a logo, why? The word Canuck is short for Canadian and Johnny Canuck is a Canadian identity mascot. It doesn't make sense at all just to represent a team in Vancouver, not Canada as a whole. It like putting a Uncle Sam on a team base in New Mexico and called it as "Americans." While Americans represent the US and Uncle Sam as an identity mascot. I'm not including the word 'Yanks/Yankees" that's belong to NY, PA, NJ, DC, MD, and DA. I even dislike how people outside of the US call us the Yanks, I don't even consider myself as a Yankee, because I'm from Florida not the NE.. It doesn't fit.. How would you feel if we 'Yanks' call you guys the 'Habs' (people who are not born in Quebec or Francophone) instead of Canucks as an overall? You would be arguing with me about that for awhile... So, it is very similar why it is not a good idea to have Johnny Canuck as a logo for Vancouver..
Up until recently the NHL allowed the occasional game with colour on colour. I remember seeing Boston's yellow thirds against the Canucks all the time. The Canadiens used to wear red against the Rangers blue MLB Jerseys as well. Those were great looking games. In HD they would be a real treat. Personally I just dont like white jerseys that much. Id like to see as much contrasting colour as possible. Red and yellow would definitely work against blue, black and green. Green vs blue or maroon vs blue would not work however. As for this game, well I hope the NHL is paying attention. That was one of the best looking games I've seen in HD period. If the league wants to sell black they should do fashion Wholesale Jerseys. If they want to sell a TV game go with colour like that. From reading the posts here, I think it is safe to say that most of my fellow Canucks fans want to see the Orca go. I think it's time we ditch that god-awful logo and make the third NHL Jerseys our home sweater and create a white version. The vintage should be a third, just like what the Flames did. The Canucks have nothing to do with whales or Orca Bay and our hockey team shouldn't be used as a tool for corporate sponsorship. So how can we make this happen people!? If Sabres' fans can do it, why can't we? I am with you 1MILLION %. I find it very appalling that Canuck fans have not taken the same kind of action as Sabre fans. I have been extremely anti-Orca from the beginning. I totally agree with your concepts. However, I also feel that the modernized skating Johnny Canuck logo should be our primary crest, for which our beloved team is named after. I have beaten this horse to death numerous times when I talk to owners, managers, and clerks of NHL retail outlets and at the Canucks Team Store. Sadly, some of them favour the Orca because it's west coast and it appeals to tourists and children alike. Well, that kind of branding is WRONG. I have told those same people again and again, "Our name is CANUCKS, NOT ORCAS." Even the Orca gets support on the message boards at 2010nfl.net I think we should have our own website, "We Are All Canucks, Not Orcas". We should get a huge petition going in order to rid our hockey club of this irrelevent eyesore of a logo along with the "Vancouver" wordmark. Johnny Canuck and Stick 'n Rink brand. A Vancouver Canucks Team Jerseys brand. Then, leave it alone permanantly.
Agreed 100%, Andre. Ottawa should return to black/white primary NHL Jerseys with a red barberpole "O' vintage. I don't think there's any argument there. However, I was at the home opener vs Buffalo the other night and the Scotiabank Place media gurus are insisting that fans "Be Red" ...whatever that means. Personally, the Sens should go back to their 1997-98 season templates (check it at nhluniforms.com) but with the updates logos and instead of the winged "S" replace that with the vintage "O" on the shoulder. I would buy that stat! However, the NHL has 30 teams today. The only colours worn as a primary back in the day were mostly red and dark royal blue, with the Bruins being the one exception with their black and gold. This isn't baseball where every team either uses navy, royal blue, red, or black. The uniforms of teams of the First Expansion of '67 and beyond designed their uniforms after the Original Six, but with the use of their own colours. It's called "variety" and "uniqueness". That doesn't mean that teams should come out with pink with brown or light green with red-yuck. However, seeing LA in purple and yellow, Philly in orange and black, or Edmonton in royal blue and orange adds more flavour to the great game of hockey. The Vancouver Canucks Team Jerseysand L.A. clubs got them down just right-- Even working within the confines of the EdgeMLB Jerseys! WHY THEN can't my Islanders get it right?!? Yes, they brought back the overall design and original colors of the classic uniforms. But the stripes are disproportionate (WAY too wide), and in the case of the socks, don't even match the pattern. I'm thrilled to get rid of the "Wholesale Jerseys" of the last few years, but why couldn't we get this right?
Great pre-game ceremony! Too bad we couldn't hold on... Interesting fact about the result though, the score of the first ever Canucks game 40 years ago was 3-1. Though the score was 1-1 at the end of overtime, take note LA scored twice in the shootout and the Vancouver Canucks Team Jerseys didn't. So history kind of repeated itself with a modern day twist. Almost makes me wish we were facing the Leafs on the 11th (Canucks' first ever win 40 years back) but seeing what they did to Ottawa tonight, (in their very good looking uniforms) it's probably better we are facing Florida. Notice how the colours of the stick and rink logo (simple as it is) matches the colours on the uniform. Hello Canucks: that's how it's supposed to be!! Instead, you have a dark monochromatic whale in which the detail gets completely lost (when viewed from a far) and just appears to be this lifeless logo rubber stamped on to the uniform. The other nice thing was having the home team wearing white Wholesale Jerseys. Hello NHL: That's how it''s supposed to be!! NHL Jerseys look fantastic. Kings, not so much. Seriously people. I get that they are classic and all, but Purple and Yellow together is just plain ugly. And yes, that means the Lakers too. Damn ugly. Really really really ugly. Did I mention I think they are ugly? I have always thought that the Kings and Canucks are two teams with some of the ugliest jerseys in history. However, on this night the Canucks didn't wear their ugly one (the V). It was a treat to see these live last night. But while the colour is nice, those Kings jerseys are really, REALLY ugly. The Canucks jersey looked great, and that's not just because I'm a Canucks fan. I really like thoseMLB Jerseys. Too bad we lost the game in that crapshoot that is the shootout.
Throwback night for a franchise this young that hasn't won anything or even really had what could be remotely be called a "classic" MLB Jerseys? C'mon! This is about as blatently obvious and lazy marketing / cash grab as they could get! Could they not find a vendor to supply them with $1 hot dogs and $2 beer? I think that's the only way you'll draw anybody into that rink other than the core 36 family and friends who come to watch their NHL relatives. Sorry guys but this is exactly what irks me about jersey promotions and the business of hockey in non-traditional markets. EL, for my part I think you're missing the point. Teams aren't limited to throwback uniforms only on arbitrarily chosen anniversaries such as 25 or even 40. Heck, the Rangers are celebrating 85 just because they can. So the idea that the Panthers could sport a retro Wholesale Jerseysdespite only being 17 years old, nevermind how silly we might find it, is really not out of the question. Could it be they're testing the market to see if fans really want red back? Could it be as simple as a cash grab, a way to generate more interest in the old red sweaters? And I'm not sure why you think "we" would've heard something by now. Or who "we" is. Some teams are good at keeping stuff under wraps — such as the Blue Jackets this summer. We'll find out when we find out and maybe they won't do redWashington Nationals Team Jerseys, but I just think your reasoning is flawed. Oh please please PLEASE let them wear the red jerseys for these games. Honestly, if they're going to make the blue third NHL Jerseys the primary home sweaters they should bring back a modified version of the original red as a 3rd. I've been advocating calling back to the early history of the team since '08.
